What drives the price
Four things, in order of impact.
Size. A sixteen foot double is not two singles. It is a bigger, heavier product with a heavier track and spring system.
Material. Steel is cheapest, then vinyl, then fiberglass, then aluminum, then wood. Custom wood is a different category entirely.
Insulation. An uninsulated single-skin door is the cheapest thing on the shelf. A polyurethane-cored insulated door costs more and is the right answer whenever the garage touches living space.
Windows and decorative hardware. Glass sections and carriage hardware add real cost, and glass reduces the insulation value of the door.

The line items people do not expect
A new opener. An existing opener usually works with a new door provided the door is a similar weight. A heavier insulated door on an old opener is a common source of complaint six months later.
New springs. The spring is sized to the door weight. A new door that weighs more than the old one needs a new spring, and that is legitimate rather than an upsell.

When a repair is the better spend
